Remove Human Beings From Yonge Street

CARS NOW, CARS FOREVER

The Complete Street Pilot on Yonge makes it too hard for me to drive my SUV.

My commute is now 7 minutes longer. This is not acceptable. Here are some reasons why you must care:

The Pilot Team overseeing Complete Streets Yonge Street is prioritizing vulnerable road users over car users. This is WRONG!

1. The city says that Fire, Paramedic and Transportation have not been impacted by this complete street. We think this is not true, even though literal EMS states otherwise.

2. We have created a new meaning of "land-locked" to mean residents who have direct access to Yonge Street. Please feel bad for us as we are so unfortunate as to live with easy access to transit and a great North-South thoroughfare.

3. Since my experience on Yonge Street is now a little bit worse, I literally do not care if anyone else's experience is better or safer.

4. A huge portion of people who live near Yonge between Davisville and Bloor do not have cars and have felt safer on Yonge since the Complete Street Pilot started. I do not care about them.

5. The residents between St. Clair and Roxborough have not been surveyed formally. We are the taxpayers in the area! We are prioritized in all other aspects of our lives and we demand the same here!

6. Did we mention that we are rich, homeowners? You have to listen to us, you know!

7. The snow removal from the winter of 2022 was a disaster. Snow was pushed from the bike lanes onto the side streets creating even more dangerous sight lines. Sight lines are the key here - not the fact that the cycle track was not usable for cyclists or that sidewalks were not usable for pedestrians. Focus - me and my car.

8. The schools in the area – more than 6 in the land-locked area- were not consulted prior to the installation. Parents are scared that their children may one day be able to safely walk to school.

9. I do not want to have to be inconvenienced for even one minute of my life. I do not care about other people, the environment, or safety. I just want to drive home fast. Is that too much to ask?!

But what do smart people think?

Probably they are wrong though...

MORE

Please consider the fact that streets should be for all.

Not only car users.

Children should be able to safely walk to school. Walkers should be able to safely cross the road. Cyclists of all ages should be able to make it to the store and back.
